Career as a Commercial Pilot in Pakistan:

Only Pakistan International Air Line offers the most job opportunities for the licensed pilots.  Secondly, there are private airlines which offer openings as well.  More job opportunities may be created if more private airline licenses are issued.  The job opportunities for commercial pilots are increasing every day due to the arrival of new private airlines in Pakistan.

When most people think about becoming a commercial pilot, they are thinking about the pilots who fly airliners around the world. If you are 17 years of age or above, with a Higher Secondary School Certificate, go to your nearest flying club for guidance. Initially, you will be issued with a Student Pilot License (SPL). Thereafter, you can begin the training for the Private Pilot License (PPL) or the Commercial Pilot License (CPL). Once you have your Commercial Pilot Certificate you can be paid to fly an airplane, and in addition, you can become a Certified Flight Instructor (with some additional training) and teach others how to fly airplanes.

Eligibility Criteria to become a pilot:

A candidate should be Intermediate / A Level (minimum 2 subjects) from a recognized institute.

Professional Qualifications: Valid Pakistani CPL / IR for a certificate from the Director-General CAA, confirming that CPL / IR is under issue.

Maximum Age: 30 years

General age relaxation of 05 years of upper age limit shall be available to all candidates as allowed by the Government of Pakistan.

Selection Procedure in PIA:

  • Eligible candidates will undergo a written test. Results of written tests will be declared only in terms of pass or fail and marks will not be declared or demanded.
  • Successful candidates in the written test will be called for an initial interview.
  • Successful candidates will be called for Psychiatric / Medical evaluation by a Medical Board.
  • Candidates declared fit by the Medical Board will undergo a Flight Check (Expense to be borne by candidate).
  • Final Interview.
  • Only successful candidates will be informed accordingly.

Application Procedure & Guidelines:

    1. Applications are invited on the prescribed form available (free of cost) in the PIA Recruitment & Placement Office at Karachi and in PIA Offices at other stations and also on PIA’s official website.
    2. Application along with photocopies of Matric, other qualifications & experience, domicile, Computerized, National Identity Card must be sent to Deputy General Manager, Recruitment & Placement Office, Near PIA Training Centre, Karachi Airport, Karachi-75200 on the required date.
    3. No TA/DA will be admissible for test/interview.

Commercial Pilot License (C.P.L) in Pakistan
Commercial Pilot License is the first step.  This license is issued by Civil Aviation Authority (C.A.A) to those candidates who qualify required physical test, practical exam of the pilot, and theoretical examinations. Qualification:  Intermediate Science (FSc), with at least second division
Age: 18 to 30 years

Pilot Courses in Pakistan
After getting an aero club membership one has to complete the following training courses:

S.P.L (Students Pilot License) in Pakistan: this exam is conducted after getting 3 hours of flying experience.

P.P.L (Private Pilot License) in Pakistan:  a candidate can participate in the P.P.L examination after getting 40 hours of flying experience.

C.P.L (Commercial Pilot License) in Pakistan: an experience of a total of 200 hours flying enables a person to take the test of C.P.L.

One can get a private pilot license or student pilot license or a commercial pilot license from a recognized flight training school or flying club.
